Elizabeth Wade, LMHC

EMDRIA and efit Certified Psychotherapist

Welcome.

Picture
One of my life's passions is being able to share in the journey of growth and healing with others. I am an EMDRIA and EFIT Certified trauma psychotherapist. I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help people heal and adaptively transform a wide variety of traumatic and distressing life experiences as well as painful experiences in close relationships, such as feeling invisible or empty.

Because of the way the brain stores memory, events that have happened to us in the past can intrude upon our present life, sometimes when there is no apparent connection. Often these experiences leave us hurt, bewildered, emotionally upset and in the moment, feeling much younger than our actual age.
EMDR helps us to identify the brain networks which connect these past and present experiences and utilizes the brain's natural adaptive healing process by using eye movements, or bilateral taps or sounds. My experience has been that clients who utilize EMDR often experience much more rapid and dramatic shifts in their healing process than traditional talk therapy. See the video below, for more about how EMDR works. There is also a wonderful video highlighting personal EMDR stories on this page.

I also use other kinds of therapy, including talk therapy, to treat other issues. Please visit my page on counseling services  for more information. If you would like to discuss your particular concern(s) to see if I might be able to help, please contact me.

What is trauma?

EMDR therapy is recommended as an effective treatment for PTSD and other trauma and stressor disorders by well-respected organizations who support empirically-evidenced treatments. Treatment guidelines are based on reviews that evaluate research of established evidence-based mental health treatments.
